Product Review: Big Bucket of Monsters

So I grew up in the time where army men, plastic cowboys and Indians, and yes, even the bright pink M.U.S.C.L.E. guys were the rage. So when The Friday Zone received the “Big Bucket of Monsters” and the “Big Bucket of Zombies,” I was immediately enthralled.

First up was setting out the legions of creepy creatures, sorting them by style and type. With 100 in each tube (despite being called “Bucket of Zombies” it doesn’t actually come in a bucket), the variety was surprising. There’s about 16 or so different figures in each tube, with the Zombies coming with “normal” humans, graves, and zombie animals in addition to the traditional brain-eating, guts-grabbing flesh-eaters. The monsters offered the better fun in the sorting stage, however, with squeals of delight greeting each new monster as it was pulled from the pile: the wolf man, godzilla, vampires, giant moths, creepy demons and more. The monsters were light or dark gray, and our zombies were glow-in-the-dark. Looking online, the zombies also come in the gray variety as well.

These guys were well received by my two boys 8 and 10, and while they have enjoyed setting up battles between dark forces and playing out scenarios on the living room floor and extending to the TV stand and the bookshelves, I’ve already found myself threatening to toss any errant devil-dogs that I find while vacuuming. 100 little creatures is a lot, so it’s tough to keep track of. An actual bucket over the flimsy plastic tube would have been a better choice in packaging, but overall, these are a huge hit and not a bad value at the price of $15 to $20. It’s great to see a classic get updated. Zombies and Monsters are a definite recommend, either to keep and play with all together or to parcel out in birthday party goodie bags or to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.
