A guest from the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing is our guest today, showing a group of Girl Scouts how to use conductive thread to sew light-up bookmarks.  This was a really interesting craft and a fun lesson in circuits.  Most of the girls (and us on TIMG_8313he Friday Zone team) had never worked with conductive thread before so that was a new experience for us.  It makes sense that it would work so well – it really is just a thin, flexible wire.

The best part of this episode is when Matt is going around talking with each of the girls about how their sewing worked out.  We had already taped two episodes before getting to this one, so it had been a really long day. That might be the excuse for what happened next!  I think Matt must have forgotten what we were doing on the show and when he was talking with one of the girls about her bookmark he asked her, “what will you use it for?”  Of course, the answer is obvious, so the girl gave Matt a sort of funny look and then answered, rather incredulously, “uhh, books.”  When that happened (and every time we watch the episode again) it’s a laugh out loud moment.
